Soon, well-meaning people in your life will start asking you: What are going to be your New Year’s resolutions? What are your goals for next year? What are your intentions for 2025? While I get the temptation to plan far in advance, to dream your desires into reality, to set resolutions that will quickly be abandoned when the way gets tough, my opinion is that setting goals and making resolutions for an entire year is tricky. Next week, I’ll repost a blog essay from 2022 about considering conducting short-term experiments rather than committing to longer-term goals or resolutions. For this week, however, I’m interested in hearing what you want for 2025? No judging!
I’ll go first; my wants for 2025 are simple, yet, some are complex:
I want the contentious weather patterns and adverse shifts in climate changes to settle down so that people, animals, and infrastructures are not harmed/damaged.
I want the generations to stop fighting each other and work together for the benefit of everyone.
I want leaders who care about all of humanity, the planets, and all sentient beings.
I want freedoms/rights to be restored.
I want peace in our universe and in our country.
I want everyone to have opportunities that lift them into a better place in life.
I want excellent health: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
I want more smiles and fewer frowns.
I want politicians to shut up.
I want more travel.
I want to use my voice and my writings to inspire, to teach, to cause us to think/change if we need to, to laugh, to feel encouraged.
What do you wish for the universe, for your country, for your family (that includes friends too), and for yourself? I encourage you to wish without worry about how realistic it is. No judgment.
